Homemade Tzatziki
Homemade Tzatziki

Tzatziki is a Greek dip that is flavoured with cucumber and garlic! The base of my dip is a mix of thick Greek yoghurt and Quark, a classic German dairy-product that is a thick spreadable consistency and is a lovely addition to this dip! You can find it in most big British supermarkets such as ASDA, Morrisons or Lidl!

The yoghurt and quark are then mixed with minced garlic and finely chopped or grated cucumber, then seasoned with salt, pepper and lemon juice. I like using a seasoning called “Aromat” to make this Tzatziki dip instead of salt, which you can also find in most supermarkets!

Tzatziki is perfect for serving with barbecued meat (e.g. this Easy Lamb Kebabs) or other fried Greek meats such as gyros, kofte, or souvlaki! They are also great with Homemade Falafel!
I also like making Tzatziki as a sauce for my Chicken, Avocado and Red Pepper Wraps or to dip or stuff homemade Pitta Breads! Tzatziki is also great piled high onto oven baked potatoes (both normal or sweet potatoes) and is also a good dip for crudités, such as tomatoes, cucumber, carrots or peppers.

Homemade Tzatziki (Greek Yoghurt Dip with Garlic and Cucumber)

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 100g Greek yoghurt
  • 100g Quark
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 100g cucumber, cut into small cubes or grated
  • a squeeze of lemon juice
  • black pepper, freshly ground
  • Aromat (or salt)

Method:

  1. Mix the Greek yoghurt, quark, minced garlic and cucumber together in a small bowl, reserving some of the cucumber for serving.
  2. Season the Tzatziki with a little lemon juice, freshly ground black pepper and Aromat (if you can’t find it, use salt instead).
  3. Scatter over the reserved cucumber to serve. The Tzatziki can then be kept covered in the fridge for 2-3 days.
