Healthy Wrap Pizza
Wrap Pizza

Want to know a quick and easy way to make home-made pizza? Then why not give these wrap pizzas a try?

Not only are they a healthy alternative to frozen or take-away pizzas, it´s also a lot budget-friendlier. You could probably make six of these wrap pizzas for half the price of a take-away one.

The best thing about a wrap pizza though, is that it is super quick and easy to make. Simply crisp up your wrap in the oven, spread on the tomato sauce, scatter with your toppings and return to the oven for a short while.

This wrap pizza only requires 3 ingredients – a tortilla wrap, tomato passata and cheese. All other ingredients are optional. You can top these pizzas with whatever you like – it´s entirely up to you!

A wrap pizza is also a perfect way of using up leftover bits of vegetables or meat you might have in your fridge. Things I like to add are ham, salami, pepperoni, chicken, mushrooms, aubergine, red pepper, onions, spinach etc…). The options are truly endless. You can use any cheese you like for this, but I would recommend using a cheese that melts well in the oven. Mozzarella cheese or gouda, for example.

This recipe is also ideal if you have a bunch of friends over in the evening. It´s a fun thing for you all to make together, and everyone can top their wrap pizza with the ingredients they like.

Healthy Wrap Pizza

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 tortilla wrap of your choice (white, wholegrain, seeded)
  • 1-2 tbsp tomato passata
  • pinch of oregano or mixed dried herbs
  • salt and pepper
  • Pizza toppings of your choice (onion, pepper, salami, ham, aubergine, spinach, mushrooms, olives, etc….)
  • Grated cheese to top (I´d recommend using mozzarella or gouda)

Method:

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C.
  2. To make your pizza sauce, in a small bowl mix together the passata, herbs and spices and season to taste.
  3. Once the oven is hot, place your tortilla wrap on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and put into the oven for 2-3 minutes. This will make the wrap less “floppy”. You want it to firm up slightly, but not be crispy. Remove from the oven and leave to cool slightly.
  4. Chop/slice your toppings. If using ingredients such as aubergines, make sure you slice them quite thinly to minimise cooking time.
  5. Spread your pizza sauce over the wrap. Then place all of your toppings (apart from the cheese) evenly on your pizza.
  6. Return to the oven and bake for 5 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle over the cheese and bake for a further 5-10 mins, or until the cheese has melted and the sides of the wrap start to crisp up.
  8. Slice your pizza and enjoy on its own or serve it with a fresh green salad.
