I know it’s not everybody’s cup of tea, but I absolutely love the combination of chocolate and orange! Hence, these Chocolate Orange Cookies are right up my street! Big, chewy, and chocolatey – what more could you want?
These Chocolate Orange Cookies are a twist on my Mini Egg Cookie recipe, so make sure you give that a go as well!
What Orange-flavoured Chocolate to use?
Obviously, orange-flavoured chocolate is key to these Chocolate Orange Cookies! However, you are completely free to choose what kind and how much of it you want to use! I used Terry’s chocolate in this recipe, just as it is my go-to and you can now buy it in bars, as well as the classic segmented orange shape! I chopped up one of the bars to use in the cookies, and used the Mini Orange Segments to top the cookies. If you cannot find the mini ones, you can always use the traditional, large ones and cut them in half.
Orange-flavoured chocolate has become extremely popular though recently, and a lot of the other leading chocolate brands in the UK are starting to do it, too. Cadbury’s, Galaxy and Aero all have chocolate orange options now, so feel free to use any one you like (the Cadbury’s one is also pretty good in my opinion)!
I also used some chopped dark chocolate in this recipe, too, but you could always replace that with milk, white or more orange-flavoured chocolate if you like.

Terry´s Chocolate Orange Cookies
Recipe
Ingredients:
- 125 g butter, softened
- 100 g soft light brown sugar
- 75 g white granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 275g plain flour
- 10g cornflour
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
- ½ tsp fine sea salt
- 90 g Terry´s Milk Chocolate Orange (either use the bar or chop or use a chocolate orange), roughly chopped
- 100g dark chocolate, roughly chopped
- 14 Terry´s Mini Chocolate Orange segments (or large ones cut in half), optional
Method:
- Start by preparing the chocolate. Roughly chop the dark and orange chocolate into small chunks and set aside until needed.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, soft light brown sugar and white granulated sugar using an electric whisk for about 2 minutes until fluffy and paler in colour.
- Next, beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined. Then add in the plain flour, cornflour, baking powder, bicarbonate and salt and mix to form a cookie dough. It may be easier to use your hands at the end to bring the mixture together.
- Add in the chopped chocolate and mix into the cookie dough until evenly distributed throughout.
- Roll the dough into 14 large balls (about 65g each). Place onto 2 large baking trays lined with baking paper and flatten them slightly by gently pressing down on them with your hand. Then stick the reserved Mini Chocolate Orange Segments (or half a large one) into the cookies and chill them in the fridge for at least 60 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C or 180°C fan. Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes until golden brown around the edges.
- Place the tray onto a wire rack and leave the cookies to cool on the tray for at least 30 minutes until firm.
- Transfer them to a wire cooling rack to cool completely, before storing them in a biscuit tin or an airtight container.
