Pear, Walnut and Honey Porridge
Pear, Walnut and Honey Porridge

I love having porridge for breakfast and I have probably had my Apple and Cinnamon Porridge every other day for the past six months! And although I love that recipe so much, I thought it might be fun to put a bit of a spin on it and come up with something different! And that´s how this Pear, Walnut and Honey Porridge was born!

Pear and Walnut Porridge

How to make the Pear, Walnut and Honey Porridge

This Pear, Walnut and Honey Porridge is very easy to make! The base porridge is same as for my Apple and Cinnamon Porridge consisting of oats, chia seeds, almond milk and water.

I love using almond milk, it is my favourite, and I use a roughly 50:50 ratio of almond milk to water. You can of course use any other type of milk or even just water instead!

In terms of additional flavouring, I add a little ground cinnamon and vanilla to my porridge. This recipe also uses 1-2 tsp of honey for sweetness! You could also add some raisins if you like them. Finally, I also decided to add some roughly chopped walnuts for a little extra crunch.

The pear is added to the porridge last, and I really only cook it for about 1-2 minutes so that it doesn´t just turn to mush. I also reserve some pear to scatter over the top of the porridge, as well as some of the chopped walnuts and an extra drizzle of honey.

Recipe

Ingredients (serves 1):

  • 35g porridge oats
  • 5g chia seeds
  • 150ml almond milk
  • 100ml boiling water
  • 1 large conference pear, cut into cubes
  • small handful of walnuts, roughly chopped
  • small handful of raisins (optional)
  • a little ground vanilla (or vanilla extract)
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp honey

Method:

  1. Put the oats, chia seeds and milk/water into a saucepan and set over a medium heat. Bring to a simmer and leave the porridge to thicken.
  2. In the meantime, wash and slice the pear and roughly chop the walnuts.
  3. Once the porridge starts to thicken, add in the cinnamon, vanilla, 1 tsp of honey, raisins (if using) and walnuts, reserving a few to sprinkle on at the end.
  4. Then stir in the pieces of pear, again reserving some to put over the top of the porridge if you like. Cook for about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Transfer your Pear, Walnut and Honey to a bowl, drizzle over the second teaspoon of honey and scatter with the reserved pear and walnuts.
