Who doesn’t love pizza? And it is so much better when it is a homemade pizza, because you can use all the toppings you love!
This homemade pizza recipe includes methods for making your own easy dough and pizza sauce. For the toppings, I have included the ones I love to use in the recipe below, but of course feel free to add any topping you like! That is the whole point of homemade pizza, the sheer freedom of topping choice!
Not only is it extremely satisfying to make your own pizza, but it is also so much cheaper than buying a frozen one, yet alone a takeaway pizza! You could make about 20 homemade pizzas for the price of a takeaway – it´s actually ridiculous how expensive they are! Plus, you don´t get all the unnecessary amounts of salt and sugar they add to frozen pizza.
This homemade pizza is student friendly, as it is budget-friendly, easy to make and also freezer-friendly! Make one batch of dough and make up to 3 pizzas, that you can also freeze for another day. Find a guide on how to freeze these pizzas below.
Perfect for a student pizza party!
Moreover, the pizza dough recipe is also really easy to double, triple etc. That way it is perfect for preparing in advance for a group of friends, and then you can all make your own pizzas with the toppings you want!
It can be hard baking as a student, but for this pizza dough recipe all you need is a large bowl and a wooden spoon! You don´t even necessarily need a rolling pin – just use your hands to flatten out the dough. Alternatively, use a glass bottle wrapped in clingfilm to roll out the dough!

Recipe
Ingredients (for 3 medium or 2 large pizzas):
FOR THE PIZZA DOUGH:
- 225g plain flour, plus extra for dusting
- ½ tsp (3g) salt
- 2 tsp (5g) dried yeast
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 120ml warm water
FOR THE PIZZA SAUCE:
- 2 tbsp tomato purée
- 100g tomato passata
- salt and pepper
- dried herbs
FOR THE PIZZA TOPPING:
- 1 small onion, diced
- ½ tin of sweetcorn
- ½ green pepper, sliced
- piece of a small aubergine, thinly sliced
- cooked chicken, shredded
- 1 ball (200g) mozzarella cheese, cut into strips
Method:
- To make the dough, mix the flour, yeast and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add the olive oil and half of the water and stir with a wooden spoon. Continue adding small amounts of water, mixing well between each addition. You might want to start using your hands. Continue adding water until the mixture starts coming together into a dough.
- Tip the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until soft and elastic. Cover with a dish towel and leave to prove for about an hour, or until doubled in size.
- Near the end of the proving time, you can start preparing the tomato sauce and toppings. For the sauce, add the tomato purée and passata to a bowl, mix and then season to taste with salt, pepper and dried herbs.
- For the toppings, drain the sweetcorn, and slice all the other ingredients. Make sure to cut the aubergine quite thinly, to ensure it cooks. Rip the mozzarella cheese into small pieces.
- Preheat the oven to 220°C fan.
- Divide the dough into 3 or 2 pieces, depending on how large you want the pizzas to be.
- Roll out the pieces of dough on a floured surface with a rolling pin, lightly dusted with flour. Make sure the base is quite thin to ensure it bakes all the way through. To prevent sticking, turn the dough whilst rolling. Place the rolled-out dough onto a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
- Start by adding tomato sauce to the pizza base. Use the back of a spoon to evenly spread it out. Place the ingredients for the top, starting with the onions, followed by the corn, aubergine, chicken, peppers and finally the cheese.
- Bake the pizzas in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes.
- Remove the pizzas from the oven, slice and enjoy!
