This is my Dad´s recipe for homemade hummus. Quick and easy to make, and it tastes delicious!
Hummus is great for healthy snacking, dipping in bread or crudités, serving with a BBQ or even for using in cooking!
Obviously, it´s quite convenient to just buy some hummus from the shops, however, it can be really fun just making your own! It doesn´t take a lot of time, it´s very easy to make and works out a lot cheaper in the long run.
All you need to make homemade hummus is three simple ingredients, chickpeas, olive oil, and tahini paste, plus some ground cumin, salt and pepper for flavouring. Add all the ingredients to a food processor and pulse until smooth. It really is that easy!
The recipe below makes about 250g of hummus, but you can easily half, double or triple the recipe! Covered, or in an air-tight container, it will last a good few days in the fridge.
This homemade hummus is great to make for a party or pot luck. Simply make a big batch of hummus and serve it alongside some fresh crudités, like red and yellow peppers, cucumber, carrot sticks or cherry tomatoes.
If you are making this hummus in the summer to serve alongside a barbecue, why not also try making some homemade rosemary focaccia bread to dip it in, and serve it next to some delicious lamb kebabs?
Homemade Hummus
Recipe
Ingredients:
- 240g (drained weight from 1 can) of chickpeas
- 1 tbsp tahini paste
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- ½ – 1 tsp ground cumin
- a little water
- salt and pepper
- flat-leaf parsley, to serve (optional)
Method:
- Place the drained chickpeas, tahini paste, olive oil and ground cumin into the bowl of a food processor.
- Blitz until the mixture forms a smooth paste. If it seems to dry, you can add some water, a little at a time, until the hummus reaches the desired consistency.
- Season to taste with salt and pepper. Optionally, sprinkle with some freshly chopped parsley to serve.
