Add a superfood-style nutritional boost to your usual breakfast with this soaked chia seed 5-minute breakfast!
As a student, I really need a breakfast that will fill me up, taste good but, most importantly, not take forever to make! Hence why I have a range of breakfasts that can be prepared in (under) 5 minutes!
This soaked chia seed 5-minute breakfast is an easy twist on my usual classic 5-minute breakfast recipe! A healthy and filling breakfast of oats and granola, topped with some natural yoghurt, sliced banana, and fresh fruit. This version simply adds some soaked chia seeds to this recipe!
I really like using this Choc and Nut Granola from Morrisons, but I also like to make my own granola if I have time. I usually make a large jar of it which lasts me quite a while. It really is easier to make than you think, so why not try making this homemade cinnamon, orange and pecan granola to top your breakfast with?!
The health benefits of chia seeds…
Chia seeds are considered a superfood. They are high in protein and also a great source of vitamins (e.g. B vitamins), fibre and omega-3-fatty acids. Read this report here for more information on them!
Besides their health benefits, I also like the fact that once they have swollen up with all the water they have absorbed, they are really filling! Make sure to also drink some water or tea/coffee with your breakfast which will make them absorb even more liquid leaving you full for longer! Perfect for getting you through a long morning of lectures!
This breakfast is another one of my 5-minute breakfasts. In this 4th version, all you need is an extra minute in the evening to prepare the chia seeds.
To make your soaked chia seeds, simply put 5g of chia seeds into a small bowl and soak in about 3 tbsp water overnight! The seeds soak up a lot of water and will form a gel-like consistency. Perfect for stirring into your cereal bowl.
Why not combine soaking the chia seeds with making a colourful yoghurt, like in my blueberry yoghurt 5-minute breakfast! Simply place both the frozen fruit and chia seeds into your bowl the night before and stir in 3 tbsp of cold water. Give it a mix and leave to soak overnight.
The next morning you´ll have your soaked chia seeds and defrosted blueberries that you can then mix with the natural yoghurt to make it purple! Ah, the fun you can have with your breakfast – I love it!
